People of Bermondsey : Lorenzo & Emma from SE1 Medical Aesthetics

Please introduce yourself and your business.

Ciao, we are Lorenzo & Emma, a locally residing family of 3 who eat, sleep & breath all things SE1.

We opened SE1 Medical Aesthetics during the pandemic and we remain committed through our experience, research & teaching to be a driving force for improvement in patient care, safety and outcomes with regards to the poorly regulated world of aesthetic procedures in the UK. Importantly, there are two arms to our business which ensure the holistic care and wellbeing of our patients, as not everyone is suitable for aesthetic injections.

Lorenzo Garagnani, SE1's Medical Director, is a world-renowned hand surgeon working full time at Guy's & St Thomas' & the Evelina Children's Hospitals where he treats disorders in adults and children, including complex congenital hand and limb anomalies. Lorenzo is dually qualified, as he also completed his postgraduate diploma in Aesthetic and Wellness Medicine back in 2005.

How did your Bermondsey/SE1 story begin?

We love our neighbourhood and the people of Bermondsey. We decided to invest in giving a new perspective to a historic warehouse right in the heart of Bermondsey Street and breath some new life into it.

How would you describe a visit to SE1 Medical Aesthetics?

You won’t find better in terms of a patient centred approach & professionalism.

In an industry that merges science, art, and personal care, how do you ensure that each client gets a personalised experience at SE1 Medical Aesthetics?

First and foremost, those who attend our clinic, are not considered as clients, but as patients and persons, each with individual features that make them unique. SE1 has always been an advocate for the pro-age revolution. Our aim is for everyone to leave our clinic looking the most refreshed and rejuvenated version of themselves. We do not advocate 50 year olds trying to look like 30 year olds, as there is nothing wrong with ageing.

Looking ahead, what are your aspirations for SE1 Medical Aesthetics in the next 5 years? How do you see it evolving within the Bermondsey landscape?

Our aim is to continue what we are already doing with the same exceptional standards and friendly family vibe. We see ourselves as part of the Bermondsey community.

Four fun facts about Lorenzo

1. He was awarded a knighthood in 2022 for his services to surgery and his voluntary work during the pandemic.

2. He is the president of the Italian Medical Society of Great Britain.

3. He teaches anatomy and has developed safer published injection techniques for aesthetic procedures.

 4. Lorenzo is one of the UK Aesthetics Awards 2023 top 7 surgeons in the field of medical aesthetics.

Any favourite Bermondsey spots that you like to visit?

Easy, our 3 year old daughter prefers the toast at Shanel’s on the corner of Mill Street to our homemade efforts. To watch the morning ritual of Shanel, the owner, interacting with Violet, melts our hearts! Emma (a Mancunian) has a tea (of course), Violet has her toast and then her and Shanel say goodbye at least six times and blow kisses at each other before our journey to nursery – that is what life is all about, community first!
