People of Bermondsey: Meet the team behind The Bermondsey Garden Cafe

BERMONDSEY STREET CAFE LONDON

Please introduce your business in Bermondsey.

We are The Bermondsey Garden Cafe, a cosy little sanctuary in the heart of London at the connecting point of Bermondsey Street and Tower Bridge Road. The cafe is a reflection of love, born from a passion for making food that is Healthy, Heartfelt and Seasonal. Our doors opened with a dream to create a space where every person, local or tourist, feels the warmth of love and comfort of their home.

A place where the coffee is always rich, the breakfast is made with care, and every dish tells a story of quality ingredients and crafted flavours.

Moving from the MooBoo Bubble Tea venture to the re-opening of Bermondsey Garden Cafe, a cafe focused on healthy, fresh food options, is quite a shift. What inspired this transition, and how do you see both establishments complementing each other in serving the community?

The journey of Mooboo (located on Tower Bridge road) has been a passionate effort from every individual in the team and the warmth, love and welcome, with open arms, from the community has been heartwarming and drives us every day to provide value for every customer.

Our focus has been on giving back to the community and we have Phyo and Maung a couple who are leading the Mooboo team and they are residents of Bermondsey.

The cool vibe of Bermondsey and the compassionate and loving community motivated us to re-open Bermondsey Garden Cafe. We are blessed that we got the opportunity to be part of this cafe and another opportunity to contribute to the community.

We believe in sustainability, community, and the power of good food to bring people together. We're not just in the business of serving meals; we're here to make connections, to grow with the community, and to share the love that goes into every dish that is cooked with love, passion and care.

We can't wait to welcome you into our garden of tasty delights and to become a part of Bermondsey’s everyday joys.

Bermondsey is a melting pot of cultures and tastes. How do you incorporate local ingredients and flavours into your menu at The Bermondsey Garden, and in what ways do you aim to reflect the community's diversity in both your offerings and the cafe's ambience?

It’s a reflection of openness and transparency. Our customers will embrace this by viewing the open kitchen where you can see the chef and barista preparing everything fresh and serving each dish. The cafe is in the corner location joining Bermondsey Street and Tower Bridge Road, and with an open glass wall layout you are still connected to the outside world but at the same time in the comfort of the cosy and homely ambience of the cafe.

We source from local producers and markets, ensuring to support the community that we are so proud to be a part of. The menu is designed to have a diverse perspective and at the same time bring in the needs of the community first. Whether it's the fast pace of quick grab and go to a balanced, fresh and richer lunch that has salads and proteins both veg and meat.

We strive to be a vibrant gathering spot that celebrates the unique blend of cultures that make Bermondsey so special.

Can you walk us through the creative process of designing The Bermondsey Garden's menu? Specifically, how do you balance the inclusion of Vegan, Vegetarian, and Meat options while ensuring each dish meets your standard for healthy, tasty food?

Creating the menu was a journey of passion, marked by extensive research, and countless taste tests. Our mission was clear: to offer a diverse menu that mirrors our beliefs in quality, inclusivity, and the joy of eating well. We're committed to minimal waste, and simplicity, ensuring our dishes are not just healthy but bursting with flavour. Our menu is designed to cater to everyone, with a special focus on balancing vegan, vegetarian, and meat options. It's a reflection of our continuous learning, relearning and dedication to excellence.

Every cafe has its signature drink that keeps customers coming back. Can you share the story behind your signature beverage, and how you incorporate health-conscious ingredients into your coffee and tea offerings?

The focus is fresh and healthy always and that is what you will see in the offering of fresh smoothies and high-quality tea and coffee. We prioritise organic ingredients and recently introduced our Matcha Latte. However, we are about to introduce more healthy offerings like Turmeric Latte, Beetroot Latte, Blue Match and Charcoal latte.

What are your favourite places to hang out in Bermondsey outside of working hours?

Tanner Street Park is great for enjoying the sun (when it’s out!!) and the Bermondsey Street Festival every September is an amazing day.

Maltby Street Market is an amazing local offering and is a great place to enjoy its diverse offerings.

Bermondsey Bar and Kitchen is a cool evening spot.

Also, we love Mooboo and its cool bubble teas!
